Fieldays Flyer - Banner - V2-151

GVR Scenic Rail & The Railway Enthusiasts Society Inc are pleased to announce a new opportunity to ride with us on the National Network to Te Awamutu and beyond. Join our well-known set of yellow carriages at The Strand or other suburban stops and travel with us to the 51st Fieldays Show at Mystery Creek. Alight at Te Awamutu and transfer by bus to the Mystery Creek venue for a day of "Town meets Country". It is a number of years since we last ran a train to the show, so what better opportunity than to join us for a return to the country's largest agricultural and rural show and exhibition!

The train will be diesel hauled using our mainline set of yellow carriages.
Full details of the excursion will be sent out with your tickets including refreshment provisions

Excursion Options

Fieldays PIC

The event this year will host annual crowd pullers like "the tractor pull" and the excavator show as well as farm entertainment "Chelsea and the Ultimate Canines", Sam & his Farmyard Friends". Likewise view the No 8 Art Awards, watch exciting fencing competitions, view cooking demonstrations "from the Farm Gate to the Dinner Plate", identify your next rural catch! As the single men & women farmers compete for the title competing in a range of complex farm skill challenges. Tour the display stands to see the latest farm innovations. The Fieldays is truly an event that brings farm and country to the town. There will be plenty of stands and exhibitions, food stalls, demonstrations and the magic of the Easter Show and A&P show all mixed up in one truly great event. Who knows you may be able to pick up great bargains on utes or other vehicles!

Kawhia Explorer

For those who would rather travel the more "off the beaten track" – we have arranged an alternative tour and visit to Kawhia, that idyllic locality situated on the shores of the Kawhia Harbour. Travel via Pirongia and explore the unique fishing town, the hot waters of the Ocean Beach and hear about the history of the Tainui tribe where their waka is buried on the northern shores of the inner harbour. The scenery along the way is in itself a good reason to come.

The King Country Explorer

As the train will continue to Te Kuiti to turn the locomotive our third option is a tour of the South Waikato & King Country. Travel by coach from Te Awamutu through many of South Waikato's byways and country lanes before re-joining the train at Te Kuiti for the return journey. Another day out with a difference!
