Home > RES Excursions > Anniversary Weekend Adventures > Te Kuiti Express - Hamilton to Te Kuiti and Return
This excursion will depart from Hamilton Station and travel the Main Trunk railway line to Te Kuiti. The train will take you through the towns of Te Awamutu and Otorohanga en- route and again traverse rich Waikato farming pasture. In the distance will be seen Pirongia Mountain on your right and the Rangitoto Ranges on your left south of Otorohanga. On arrival at Te Kuiti passengers will alight from the train and have approximately 45 minutes of free time while the engine is turned on the turntable. Passengers may wish to observe this operation from the overhead pedestrian footbridge or alternatively enjoy a coffee at the Station café or view the sculpture of Sir Colin Meads and read of his deeds which is again situated outside the station. A photo-stop (if time permits) is planned en-route. It is planned to have afternoon tea/coffee and light refreshments available for purchase. Full details will be sent with the ticket mailout.
