kaipara-kapers

It has been some time since the last passenger service visited Helensville and it may well be some time before the next opportunity arises. The Railway Enthusiasts Society Inc invites you to join them on a one off, and definitely last time to ride the Silver Fern railcar, as we journey from Otahuhu to Helensville and return. Explore the hidden gems of the Kaipara township in this short springtime excursion.

Having just visited the area in preparation for this excursion I am genuinely excited that passengers will be amazed at the changes occurring out west, many of which we read about but have little understanding of.

So phone a friend, pack a picnic, rouse the neighbours, and make tracks to the nearest station to enjoy the best little trip to the west!

Ride in air-conditioned comfort, view the changing landscape through large panoramic windows and enjoy the company of your fellow passengers as the railcar takes you through town and country to the ever changing settlement of Helensville.

  • Travel through the western suburbs of Auckland and view the growth taking place.
  • Pass through the old end of the suburban line stop at Waitakere.
  • Be amazed at the change of scene at Kumeu – new suburbs, a growing hub.
  • Enjoy the changing horticulture landscape from Waimauku to Helensville.
  • Enjoy the old time ambience of Helensville, browse the Antique stores, savour the culinary scene, Muse at the Museums (Helensville Railway and Helensville Museum), paddle the pools at Parakai.
  • Wander the town walkway along the river and rail corridor. Enjoy a picnic.
  • Take a local sightseeing tour.

A local bus will be available to shuttle you around Helensville, to the Museum and up to Parakai to enjoy time at the pools if desired. This will act as the local sightseeing tour. See booking form. Admission charges to the Rail Museum & Model Railway, Helensville Museum and any purchases of food and refreshments are at passengers' own expense.
