Carriage History:

Built at the Petone Workshops, Wellington as a two compartment first class 'Main Trunk' carriage seating 30 passengers, with a central lavatory. It weighed in at 20ton 10cwt.

As built AA 1134 was allocated to Wellington, and in 1932 was transferred to Auckland. In March 1943 was altered to a Otahuhu workshops, Auckland to a second class carriage with the fitting of scarrett 'flip over' seats. Seating was available for 51 passengers.

Steam heating was removed in 1965 altering the carriage weight to 23ton 8cwt.

In 1973, AA 1134 was forwarded to East Town workshops, Wanganui to have its exterior cladding replaced as needed and had the interior refurbished and painted. The carriage was then returned to service between Taumarunui and Stratford.

During 1975 AA 1134 was withdrawn from service and was offered to the GVR in October 1976.


In October 1976 AA 1134 was offered to Glenbrook Vintage Railway. It has been fully refurbished to mainline standards to allow it to travel on the KiwiRail network.

All carriages in the RES fleet are in Ways and Works yellow with brown trim.
