Through the years, the GVR has been a popular location for people to host their weddings, so why not join the growing trend and hire our heritage steam train and Glenbrook Station site for your special day.

Enjoy a day out in the beautiful Franklin countryside with all your friends and family, and have a great time celebrating this special occasion. Our whole site is available for hire, and we will operate the trains to suit your requirements. Our large station complex has plenty of free parking available, as well as large areas for marquees and catering vehicles. We also have toilet facilities (wheelchair-accessible) onsite. We are happy to provide a range of vintage props - suitcases, milk cans, etc. to help create a "period" atmosphere if required. Note that we only hire the site - catering, marquee hire etc. will need to be arranged by the hirer. 
 
We are the perfect venue to choose if you want to introduce an elegant "railway" theme to your wedding.

Filming at our railway

If you are planning to make a TV advertisement, TV programme or a movie, we are always available for hire, and participate in whatever your requirements may be. We can offer many special features including either steam or diesel locomotives with a range of passenger carriages or heritage freight wagons. At Glenbrook Station, a range of vintage "props" is available, including suitcases, old sacks and boxes, milk cans etc. to provide the appropriate "atmosphere"

 
Over the years the GVR has been used for many TV adverts and films, including the NZ Steel ‘ColourSteel’ adverts featuring Ja 1250 “Diana”. Films such as "Tangiwai", "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence", "Bliss" and others have been shot at the Railway. Music videos have also taken place, one featuring the famous Topp Twins.
We can cater for all your needs whatever they may be. We are in an excellent location for filming, being in a quiet rural area with beautiful Franklin countryside as a backdrop.
